TATC's Philosophy

The organization was founded after Anshuma and Preetha identified significant gaps in the education and training available to Mental Health Professionals in India. Including the founders, several professionals have found it necessary to study abroad to ensure they receive appropriate education in specialized fields. Recognizing the disparities in the mental health sector, we sought to bridge the gap for the new and upcoming generations of mental health professionals by providing the required resources. Through this pioneering venture, we wanted to promote well-being through the use of Arts Therapies in India, effectively changing how ‘Arts & Health’ is perceived in the nation.

We are driven to provide a collaborative platform where professionals can have access to mental health education and training that is culturally sensitive, decolonized and suited to the Indian population. Our aim is to transform the mental health landscape in India by ensuring new professionals are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to become ethical and competent mental health professionals.

About Us

The Founders

The founders - Anshuma Kshetrapal and Preetha Ramasubramanian - have been trained and working in the field for over 15 years. As individuals, they are invested in research in the field of Arts Therapies and have several publications and paper presentations in conferences under their belt. They are internationally recognized for their effort in their respective fields, and hence, realized the need to come together to create awareness and address the gaps in the ‘Arts & Health’ education, training and outreach in India.

Anshuma and Preetha have both worked with various age groups and concerns in India and abroad. They have worked in individual and group settings, conducted several workshops for corporates, educational institutions and organizations. They provide Supervision to professionals who are starting in the field of mental health.

Alongside other pioneering Dance Movement Therapists, they founded the Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy in 2019. They have worked together on Project Reflect, an endeavour by TATC, to bring the Arts into classrooms in a curriculum designed to enhance emotional intelligence and encourage empathy, inclusivity and sensitivity in young minds.
